Completed Projects
The Crouch-Perkins House, Church St., McKinney, TX
Restoration of the exterior of this 1897 landmark McKinney home.
- Project Aim: Restore the exterior to its original glory. Stabilize the south side of structure.
- Project Status: New radiant-barrier decking and 50-year composite shingles have been installed. An engineered steel frame was installed on the south side of structure to stabilize the foundation.
New posts, rails, balusters, spandrels and other exterior details are currently being milled. Restoration of the original porches with new kiln-dried tongue-and-groove flooring is proceeding, as is construction of new historically correct steps on all four sides of the house.
The careful stripping of multiple layers of paint from the salvaged dentil moldings and original balusters and posts has been finished. The intricate details of this Victorian home had long been hidden by multiple layers of old paint, the edges blurred by a century of buildup. The dentil moldings were painstakingly removed and individually cleaned, and the detail edges now stand sharply in relief, their original beauty restored. The beaded porch ceiling had to be replaced due to years of exposure to harsh Texas weather. The home has finally lost its "naked lady" tag (a name affectionately given by the local community after it was completely stripped of all its paint), and it is receiving some well-chosen colors of Sherwin Williams paint.
