Completed Projects
The Heard Home Woman's Trust
- Project Objectives: New 50 Yr shingle roof and decking, roof sagging from weight of multiple layers.
- Scope of works: Removal of existing defective shingles and the many additional layers discovered hidden beneath. This roof had three layers of composite shingles and two layers of cedar shingles. The additional weight from multiple layers of shingles is a serious concern when dealing with the structural integrity of any building. Historical structures in Texas are traditionally framed without a Purlin because there is little or no live load from snow. Multiple layers of roof coverings cause the rafters, which are normally 2x4's and overspanned, to bow and deflect under the weight. The result is often seen inside a home with ceiling deflection from a poorly strutted roof.
